Motion Pacific Presents
Community Choreography Residency
Choreographers are invited to apply for Motion Pacific’s inaugural choreographic residency. The selected artists will be offered three weeks of studio space, technical support, housing, and administrative assistance. Peer support will also be provided by a local Santa Cruz artist associated with Motion Pacific. This support will initiate and facilitate deeper connections into the community and bring prospective participants and audience members to the residency. A small panel, consisting of the Director, several Board Members, and a community member will review applications and choose the artist.
We are looking for artists who are open to engaging with our community. Choreographers have the opportunity to work with local community dancers during their residency. In addition to a possible performance at the end of the residency, options to hold an open rehearsal or showing with Q&A are available. Choreographers may also be invited to teach classes during their residency. Presenting site-specific work outdoors or a piece that focuses on engagement with the community in a public space available and encouraged.
It was amazing. I truly feel appreciated and nurtured as an artist. It is like a second home to me now. I hope to create more there in the future. – Christine Suarez, 2016 Summer Resident
